OUKITEL WP8 Pro Review: Low budget Sports rugged phone

Although OUKITEL is known for their low budget smartphone with high efficiency, they have some good rugged phones with affordable price. And, this OUKITEL WP8 is one of those. This sports rugged phone is capable of doing so many things that you do not find in a normal smartphone. It has decent camera, best build quality and large size display. Overall, it has everything that we can expect in a 150 dollars rugged phone. Perhaps it provides more than expectation. How? Let’s read the entire post.

So, here I am to do my honest and in-depth review of OUKITEL WP8 rugged phone. Let’s dig out every possible fact about this phone. So, if you are looking for a new rugged phone or want to change your current phone that can be easy to select this one. A rugged phone is not like a smartphone but it contains the same smartphone features with a rugged look and some extra features. If you do not need a rugged phone you can also check it for your regular device.

What I am going to do is, point out every aspect of this phone to give you a clear idea why should you get this and why not. So without further ado, let’s start the review. But first, you need to know the key features of this phone.

Design and Build quality

First of all, this is a slim phone. Most of the rugged phone gets bulkier. But in this time, this is thinner and just 12 mm thick but as usual 85 mm wide and 178 mm height. Overall, it is not perfect for holding and operate with a single hand. Definitely, you two hands to operate this phone. As well as the phone has 280gram weight. All of these makes not that good grip you are looking for in the hand. But the phone is made out of a metal frame. So if you drop the phone accidentally that shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Moreover, the outer layer of the phone made out of rubber so it helps to get extra grip. Its black color design with yellow accent is cool but the best design option anyway.

There is a round camera cutout on the back. There are three cameras and a dual LED flashlight just like Huawei mate series. But overall, it looks very stunning.

On the right side of the phone there is SIM and SD card slot on the top. And, power button bellow that. Then there is a side mounted fingerprint sensor. Left side contains volume keys and one smart keys that you can set up to any emergency function.

All of these buttons are metal made. That means easy to press and tactile. I have no problem to reach each button and press. All the buttons have perfect position. Although they left side volume keys maybe a bit struggle for you to press.

There is a Micro USB port on the bottom of the phone which is covered with rubber for better water and dust protection.

Above all there is a huge screen on the front. This notch display has better screen to body ratio which I will talk later. Also it contains large earpiece as well.

Overall design looks very promising to me. Well justified the money.

Rugged features

When you see good build quality in a rugged phone obviously it will get best quality rugged features. That is what this phone is! With a minimal budget I don’t know how, they have managed to put lot of promising features in this phone.

It definitely contains best rugged features in the market. Including, highest possible water and dust protection, air pressure and weather protection as well.

It has IP68 rating for water and dust protection. That means this phone can survive 30 minutes under water in 1.5 meter depth. Also it requires to take water pressure. Here comes the IP69K rating. It allows to take more air and water pressure than normal smartphone. As a result your phone never get damaged easily.

Well, the phone is also 360° dustproof as well. Or, if you accidentally drop into the mud then one thing to do, wash it with clean water. Your phone will be fine as before.

Also it has Military standard 810G rating. This rating provides to those ultimate strong phones that can survive any extreme condition.

So, having bad weather condition such as less than 0°C temperature or more than 50°C temperature can not do any damage to your phone. On the contrary you can operate your phone in this weather condition without having any issue.

Such a large size phone like this often fall from the hand. That is why it has better drop and shock protection too. It has 1.5 meter drop protection on the concrete surface without even scratching the phone a bit. You will get better than this in regular land.

All of these features proves how rugged this phone is! Since this is the best in the market I think you will be satisfied with this anyway.

Performance

No matter how rugged phone looks, performance does matter a lot. Without good performance all these outlook and other features turns out crap. Especially when you have tight budget these thing gets more tricky. I am not you are going to receive best quality performance in this phone. But, according to what money it costs you are about to get something decent.

OUKITEL WP8 pro has MediaTek MT6762D or Mediatek Helio A25 octa-core processor. This is one of the popular low-end processors from Mediatek. As you know Mediatek provides better performance than others when you have a tight budget. This CPU comes with IMG powerVR GE8320 GPU. With this combination it provides decent performance.

In daily uses, you will see smooth performance. But this phone is not made for heavy uses. Also, heavy gaming is not recommend in this phone either. But, if you are regular rugged phone user then this should not be your problem at all.

I have played few games like temple run, subway surfer and candy crush these are very smooth to play. But heavy games like PUBG mobile or Ashphalt got some lag issue.

As for the storage, this phone has 64GB internal storage. For the current standard it may look low storage, that is why have an option to expand with a TF card. Also, it has 4GB RAM for any daily life task management. Having this RAM allows you to operate phone smoother and faster.

Since this phone has latest Android operating system Android 10. That ensures smoother user experience without any doubt.

Overall I can say, this is well-justified performance according to the budget. But not the best you can get. Still, there was some point they could have done better. Anyway, this is not bad either. If you are regular phone user this hardware can satisfy you. But it is not recommended for heavy phone users.

Display

I think this is one of the largest display in a rugged phone. It is really a huge size display for rugged phone. For strength this is not I recommend at all.

OUKITEL WP8 Pro has 6.49 inch IPS LCD display with notch. Although this have 720p resolution. For such a large display it is bad to have low resolution. As a result, you will get less sharpness and color balance. But not extremely bad either. It works so so. Since it is a large display with almost no chins and bezels you will have outstanding media watching experience.

There is no problem with brightness too. In outdoor condition it is very comfortable to use. But not in direct sunlight.

There is also multiple touch support. It allows up to 5 finger touch at a time. That makes your phone using more smoother than usual.

Also, I have not found any touch response problem on it.

Since this is a large display you must need extra protection on the screen. That is why OUKITEL put latest version of corning gorilla glass on it. It protects this large display from getting scratch in daily uses or get shattered by regular life drop.

Overall this is a perfect display when you are talking about less money you are going to spend. But it could be better with a lower size display with the same resolution. Having this large size display in this price rugged phone I think more than your expectation. So let’s be okay with the resolution.

Camera

The camera is the most fascinating feature in a smartphone. Also, must be needed as well. In this low budget rugged phone, they have put a decent camera setup. Do not compare it with flagship phones.

OUKITEL WP8 Pro has three cameras on the back. Starting with 16 MP main camera with autofocus and 2 MP wide-angle and 2 MP depth sensor camera.

Overall this setup is able to pull out a decent quality photo that you can expect in this phone. Not the best but not so bad either. It just does its job.

Photo looks sharp and over saturation. But, this is what you will get from other phones at this price range. So you can not blame OUTKITEL for this either. It is about money what you are spending and what out are about to get.

And the portrait looks decent too. There is no edge detection issue at all. As well as auto focus does not struggle in daylight. But it does in low light for sure. It has a night mode option to take photo in the night or dark condition. But you have to be steady to take that kind of picture. The outcome is awesome if you have good photo taking hand.

Well, the back camera can shoot 1080P video at 30 frames per second.

On the front side, it has 8MP camera with f 2.2 aperture. Compare to the back camera front camera is promising. It takes good quality selfie with better sharpness and color accuracy.

Overall the camera of this phone does it job good. No complain at all about the camera.

Battery

This OUKITEL WP8 Pro rugged phone has 5000 mAh battery on it. This battery will definitely give you more than two days backup in regular use. In my personal use, I have got more than two days with single charge. Since it has low powered CPU it will consume less battery power. As a result you will get better battery backup without any doubt.

If there is a smaller size display you would get more than three days battery backup. But this is not at all.

But, having a large battery without having the fast-charging capability is really bad. It takes 4-5 hours to get a full charge.

Other than that this batter will give you satisfaction that you a expecting.

Misc

Obviously this phone has dual LTE network support. But it has shared SIM slot. That means if you want to use memory card you can use just one SIM. That is pretty normal for any phone in the market right now.

Moreover it has NFC for contactless google payment without having physical card. It allows you to pay near super shop with your phone.

Also it has other necessary navigation sensors. That works pretty good!

Must have to talk about that smart customizable button. It allows you to shortcut certain functions such as, sound record, push to talk, SOS, camera screenshot. flashlight etc.

And for the security it has side mounted fingerprint sensor. That works blazing fast to unlock the phone. Also the positioning seems accurate as well.

Conclusion

If you have tight budget and do not need over the top features in your phone and definitely need rugged features then this phone is number one choice for you.

According to the budget this phone performs very good without any doubt. As I said, if you are one of those customers then I definitely recommend this phone.
